Sketchbook finish painting

This was a months worth of not painting at all I have done a huge three hour love demo with this self portrait I'll call it and I realized I love to paint its just I have to learn all my basics first oh and yes that is cthulhu back there.

i used a mirror for this one because I seem to do better without a static picture this is three and a half hours so far need to spend more time on it my proportions are close but still not perfect and value needs more work

mom tribute painting WIP

since my mom died last week I've been retouching on old memories I had of her but I think time has made them diluted but I have one memory of her that I can never forget. I was five or so and my mother took me and siblings to a Moody Blues concert I was being annoying and would not let my mother enjoy the show so she whips out of her backpack a huge orange glow stick! I remember it lighting her face and I was in awe at its epicness after that she showed me that if you tie a string around it you can make circles and glow lines in the night air but then I let go of it while twirling it and it went over the fence and she wouldn't let me go get it which sucked but I still love her and will never forget her and all she taught me.

I need to practice more gesture drawing so I did some and I chose this one to paint it was only 2 hours worth of time so I should finish it by this weekend

I finally got the motivation and enthusiasm that I lost since I got back from San Francisco and I really need to start kicking my own ass if I want to meet my 50 self portraits this year (I wanted 100 but When i get to 50 I'll see how I feel ) I really want to spend the time I need to get these self portraits to my level of completion anyway this one took about 4 or 5 hours in photoshop I'm including the reference photo it was hard without good lighting well at least I learned something about lighting.
